◉ A six-match unbeaten run (W4, D2) propelled Hull City away from the relegation places, but the ‘Tigers’ have since been mauled across their last three Championship outings (L3) - sucking them right back towards the danger zone. Winless since November, Hull’s form certainly isn’t inspiring and neither is their recent record against Blackburn Rovers, failing to score a single goal in five straight losses.
◉ One more loss against Blackburn would equal Hull’s worst-ever losing league run against a single opponent in over 90 years. Given the visitors' stunning recent form and the fact Hull have lost six of their last seven Championship games played on a Wednesday - five of which were decided by a single goal - the picture doesn’t look bright for Grant McCann’s side to get back to winning ways in this clash.
◉ Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray may have reminded his side that they’ve achieved nothing yet after victory over Cardiff at the weekend, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that his side are rubbing shoulders with the Championship’s big-hitters as they eye promotion. His message may ring true, but for Rovers fans it must be hard to not get carried away considering no Championship side has claimed more than their 40 points across the last 20 league games.
◉ Avoiding defeat in this match would see Rovers occupy a top-two spot heading into the weekend, and with Mowbray’s strong managerial record against Hull (W10, D2, L5), you wouldn’t bet against them achieving that. An early Blackburn goal could prove crucial too, as they’re one of only two Championship sides yet to lose after leading this season (W14, D3).
◉ Players to watch: Three of George Honeyman’s four goals for Hull this season have served as match openers. Joe Rothwell’s last four Blackburn goals have also been match openers and Rovers have never been on the losing side in a game in which he’s netted (W7, D4).
◉ Hot stat: No side has collected more than Blackburn’s 62 Championship yellow cards this season.
Hull City starting lineup:
Baxter; Bernard, Greaves, McLoughlin; Longman, Docherty, Smallwood, Lewis-Potter; Honeyman; Wilks, Magennis
Blackburn Rovers starting lineup:
Kaminski; Lenihan, Van Hecke, Wharton; Nyambe, Travis, Rothwell, Pickering; Buckley; Brereton Diaz, Khadra
Prediction
Hull City 0-2 Blackburn Rovers
While Hull have been in good form of late, we cannot ignore the uncertainty surrounding coronavirus cases. With that in mind, Rovers are justifiably the clear favourites and should have enough to claim a relatively comfortable
