Preview
◉ After a late equaliser against Crystal Palace on Friday, Brighton made it four points from their two league games this calendar year, to go four matches unbeaten in Premier League (PL) action. The last three games during that run (W1, D2) illustrated Brighton’s recent never-say-die spirit, with four of their five points gained coming via goals scored after the 70th minute.
◉ However, Brighton were beaten 4-1 by Man City in their last home game against a team currently inside the top three. A repeat will see the ‘Seagulls’ add to their winless top-flight record against Chelsea (D3, L6), which has seen them trail ‘to nil’ at half-time in all four of their prior home matches.
◉ Including the most recent H2H (1-1) Chelsea travel to the Amex Stadium winless in three PL outings (D2, L1). With the Blues’ title challenge considered all but over after a 1-0 loss to Man City on Saturday, only a further winning addition to their record as away league favourites this term (W7, D1, L1) can make up for that recent slump in form.
◉ Chelsea are also yet to trail at the break in a PL road trip this term, despite conceding first in back-to-back PL away games for the first time since May 2021. Should they do so again, it is worth noting that none of Chelsea’s previous four PL away games to see them concede the opener have ended level (W2, L2).
◉ Players to watch: Brighton’s Danny Welbeck netted the late equaliser in this season’s reverse H2H, making it three headed goals against teams from last season’s top five since the start of last April. Opposition midfielder Jorginho scored a brace of penalties in Chelsea’s latest PL away win, and also netted the opener from 12 yards in last season’s league meeting here.
◉ Hot stat: None of the nine prior PL H2Hs have seen both teams score before half-time.

Brighton & Hove Albion starting lineup:
Sanchez; Lamptey, Webster, Burn, Cucurella; Gross, Lallana, Moder, Mac Allister; Trossard, Maupay

Chelsea starting lineup:
Kepa; Rudiger, T Silva, Sarr; Azpilicueta, Kovacic, Kante, Alonso; Mount, Lukaku, Werner

Prediction
Brighton & Hove Albion 1-2 Chelsea
Brighton have been a very difficult team to beat in the Premier League this season, and this has all of the makings of a tough fixture for a wounded Chelsea. The Seagulls are more than capable of picking up a positive result, but we just have a feeling that the Blues will navigate their way to an important three points.
