Match Preview

◉ Although these two giants of Italian football don’t share the same geographical location, many see AC Milan vs Juventus as one of the country’s biggest derby clashes due to the history embedded in this fixture. Up until a few years ago, Juve had a real hold over this H2H, winning nine straight competitive meetings, yet Milan have begun to turn the tables recently, losing just one of the six competitive H2Hs since (W2, D3).
◉ Milan come into this round in second place, chasing city rivals and league-leaders Inter, but they have played a game more. With the title-race finely poised, this game is a must-win for the ‘Rossoneri’, especially after losing to Spezia in dramatic circumstances last time out, conceding a 96th minute winner to lose 2-1, just minutes after having their own injury-time winning goal chalked off due to a referee error. The referee - now facing a ban - apologised for his mistake directly after, but the reality remains that Milan are now on the cusp of losing consecutive SA home games for the first time since September 2019.
◉ The current league table suggests that the Serie A (SA) title is once again going to evade 36-time champions Juventus, yet their form since November (W6, D2) does hint towards a potential late title challenge. A staple of their up-turn in form has been strong finishes and they haven’t conceded a league goal after the 60th minute since October.
◉ A frailty in the ‘Old Lady’ this season appears to be losing the psychological edge they’ve held over the other top teams in the division for so long. They’re winless in their five SA matches (D3, L2) with teams currently above them in the table, netting a goal or less in each.
◉ Players to watch: Milan’s Ante Rebić has scored in his last three SA meetings against Juventus - each strike arrived after the 75th minute. Juventus’ Paulo Dybala scored in his last two competitive appearances, and has assisted three of his side’s last four H2H goals.
◉ Hot stat: The first encounter this season ended 1-1, but these sides haven’t drawn both SA league meetings in a single campaign since 1991/92.

AC Milan starting lineup:
Maignan; Florenzi, Kalulu, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Tonali, Bakayoko; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Ibrahimovic

Juventus starting lineup:
Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Chiellini, De Sciglio; Locatelli, Rabiot; McKennie, Dybala, Bernardeschi; Morata

Prediction

AC Milan 2-2 Juventus
Following the 1-1 draw in September, Milan and Juventus are in line to draw both meetings in a Serie A campaign for the first time since the 1991-92 season.

In fact, the two giants of Calcio have not drawn any of their last nine league encounters at San Siro, but with both sides recently improving in the final third, a close-fought affair could have several twists and turns as it reaches its climax.
