Match Preview

◉ Chelsea still look like assured candidates for a podium finish, despite giving up a half-time lead in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton to all but end their title hopes. Attention now turns to the ‘Blues’ extending an unbeaten Premier League (PL) run at Stamford Bridge that goes back to the start of October (W3, D5), though that month also mark’s Chelsea’s last PL home clean sheet.
◉ A shutout would see Chelsea complete a streak of 9+ PL home games unbeaten for the first time since Jan-Aug 2019, but in their current unbeaten home run, the two victories they recorded against teams presently outside the bottom three saw the first two goals shared. That suggests that any win here might not be straightforward, even with Chelsea’s dominant all-time H2H record (W76, D41, L55).
◉ The recent EFL Cup semi-final triumph (3-0 agg) provides a further psychological edge for Chelsea, but Tottenham will be fired up against their London rivals, after a scintillating 3-2 injury-time comeback against Leicester in midweek kept their hopes of a top-four finish alive and gave them the new record for the latest time to be trailing a PL match (94:52) before turning it around to win.
◉ Spurs will at least wish to avoid a first ‘quadruple’ of competitive H2H losses in a single season for the first time since 2001/02, after also losing the reverse PL clash back in September. Overall, Tottenham’s away league form since mid-October (W3, D2, L1) has been a tale of fine margins, with only one goal separating the sides in each game that saw a winner.
◉ Players to watch: Hakim Ziyech scored his fourth PL goal for Chelsea in midweek, and that effort was also his second strike in English top-flight action to act as a match opener. Opponent and fellow Ajax alumni Steven Bergwijn scored both of Tottenham’s injury-time goals against Leicester a day later, as he netted in a club-level away match for the first time since August 2019.
◉ Hot stat: Eight of Chelsea’s last ten PL home wins over Tottenham have seen them win at least one half by a 1-0 scoreline.

Chelsea starting lineup:
Kepa; Sarr, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Alonso; Mount, Lukaku, Werner

Tottenham Hotspur starting lineup:
Lloris; Sanchez, Dier, Davies; Emerson, Skipp, Winks, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Kane, Lucas

Prediction

Chelsea 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
This is a very difficult match to call, with Chelsea struggling to win Premier League games in recent weeks. Tottenham are a much-improved outfit under Conte's management, meanwhile, and we believe that the visitors will have enough quality to secure a share of the spoils at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
