◉ ‘Crestfallen’ is but one word to describe how Leicester City must have felt after dropping three points in stoppage time against Tottenham in midweek, and setting a new Premier League (PL) record for the latest lead (94:52) to turn into defeat. If there is any consolation for mid-table Leicester, they still have up to four games in hand over the teams above them.
◉ Leicester will hope for a less volatile affair here, having kept a clean sheet in a majority (five) of their nine previous PL H2Hs (W6, D2, L1) with Brighton. Yet, the more superstitious fan will note that the Foxes’ last 13 PL fixtures played on a Sunday have averaged a whopping 4.38 goals per game!
◉ A second-half strike from Adam Webster was enough to secure Brighton a point against Chelsea in midweek, and in turn register a fifth 1-1 draw across their last eight PL outings. Drawing too many games (D11) has been the story of Brighton’s season, although this game might not follow suit, with just seven of 35 historical league H2Hs between the clubs ending in a stalemate.
◉ Brighton have earned themselves a reputation of being slow starters, conceding first in seven PL away games this season, of which six were first-half openers. Fortunately for Graham Potter’s side though, only West Ham (nine) have claimed more points from behind away from home in the PL this season than Brighton’s eight.
◉ Players to watch: Leicester’s Youri Tielemans has endured a mixed bag against Brighton of late, registering three assists – but also two yellow cards – in his last four personal H2H meetings. Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister netted a double in Brighton’s last PL away outing, and four of his five PL goals for the club have come away from home.
◉ Hot stat: Brighton have only won one of their last nine PL games officiated by Martin Atkinson (D1, L7).
Leicester City starting lineup:
Schmeichel; Justin, Amartey, Soyuncu, Thomas; Dewsbury-Hall, Tielemans; Lookman, Maddison, Barnes; Daka
Brighton & Hove Albion starting lineup:
Sanchez; Veltman, Webster, Burn, Cucurella; Moder, Gross; Lamptey, Mac Allister, Trossard; Maupay
Prediction
Leicester City 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton are a team to be taken extremely seriously in the Premier League this season, and we find it difficult to back the Seagulls to lose on their travels considering their form. Leicester will again be missing a number of important players, meanwhile, so we have had to settle on a low-scoring draw here.
