Match Preview

◉ The Ryan Lowe resurgence continues for Preston, as they became the first side this season to inflict a home league defeat on West Brom on Wednesday night (2-0). Fans will now be dreaming of a late playoff push, and extending their formidable run of just one defeat in the last 17 H2Hs against Bristol City (W9, D7) could provide the springboard the ‘Lilywhites’ need to attack those top six positions.
◉ Only West Brom have lost less Championship home games this season than Preston, yet it’s draws that seem to be the issue for North End after recording a Championship high of six stalemates at Deepdale. Preston conceded first in three of those draws, but never write them off on home soil, as they are the only Championship side not to have lost a home game in which they have conceded first (W2, D3).
◉ Whilst in no immediate danger of relegation, but by no means threatening the playoff picture, another season of mid-table mediocrity beckons for Bristol City. Fortunately for the ‘Robins’, their home form has been solid of late, because away from home they’ve had their wings clipped after failing to win their last seven (D1, L6).
◉ A trip to Preston may not be the place to turn that around either, with their last win at Deepdale coming back in 2011 (D4, L4 since). A run of conceding 2+ goals in their previous eight Championship away outings further heightens Bristol City’s task, whilst conceding in the ten minutes preceding half-time in five of those eight games indicates a distinct lack of concentration.
◉ Players to watch: Preston’s Emil Riis Jakobsen netted his tenth Championship goal of the season against West Brom - only one of which has come in the opening 25 minutes. Bristol City often look to Andreas Weimann for inspiration, with the Austrian involved in half of their 36 Championship goals this season (G14, A4).
◉ Hot streak: Bristol City haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 17 Championship away games!

Preston North End starting lineup:
Iversen; Van den Berg, Bauer, Hughes; Potts, Ledson, Whiteman, Cunningham; Browne; Riis Jakobsen, Evans

Bristol City starting lineup:
O'Leary; Vyner, Kalas, Pring; Dasilva, Massengo, Scott, O'Dowda; Weimann; Semenyo, Martin

Prediction

Preston North End 2-1 Bristol City
Given their respective inconsistencies, all three results was realistically possible at the weekend. Nevertheless, we feel inclined to back the home side, who have the momentum after their victory at The Hawthorns.
