Match Preview

◉ Four wins across their last five Serie A (SA) matches (L1) has helped Torino register their highest points return (31) after 21 top-flight fixtures since 2013/14. After two lowly finishes over the last two seasons, the ‘Granata’ faithful are now starting to dream about the possibility of a European place and their highest top-flight ranking in 30 years, beating the two seventh-placed finishes they achieved in 2013/14 and 2018/19.
◉ Ivan Jurić’s arrival has seen Torino significantly improve their home performances, with only league leaders Inter gaining more than their 23 home SA points (W7, D2, L2) before this round. That’s even more impressive when you consider it took Torino until March to win their first home league match of last season, curiously against their visitors here, Sassuolo (3-2).
◉ Sassuolo lost to Verona (2-4) in their last SA match and despite their free-scoring abilities, are still stuck in the bottom half. In fact, the ’Neroverdi’ have scored 38 goals after 22 SA matches for the first time in their history, finding the net in each of their previous 16 away top-flight affairs - the second-longest current run in Europe’s top-five leagues, after Bayern Munich (43).
◉ Having scored 2+ goals in each of their last seven SA away matches for the first-time ever, Sassuolo’s unpredictable form will undergo a severe test here as they’ve won only once in the last 11 H2H SA meetings (D4, L6), losing the last two, although they’ve never lost three SA games in a row against Torino!
◉ Players to watch: Defender Wilfried Singo has scored Torino’s opening goal in two consecutive matches, netting before the 30th minute in both. Grégoire Defrel scored his first SA goal of the season last weekend, but he has three strikes across his nine H2Hs – though he has never been on the winning side (D2, L7)!
◉ Hot stat: Torino are one of only three SA sides yet to lose a league match after netting the opener this term (W8, D4).

Torino starting lineup:
Milinkovic-Savic; Djidji, Bremer, Rodriguez; Singo, Lukic, Mandragora, Vojvoda; Praet, Brekalo; Sanabria

Sassuolo starting lineup:
Consigli; Toljan, Ayhan, Ferrari, Rogerio; Frattesi, Lopez; Berardi, Raspadori, Kyriakopoulos; Scamacca

Prediction

Torino 1-1 Sassuolo
Though Sassuolo have not drawn any of their last eight league matches at Stadio Olimpico di Torino, that statistical quirk may be ironed out on Sunday, as the sides play out a low-scoring draw.

In those last eight Turin clashes, 31 goals have been scored by the teams in total - at a rate of nearly four per match - but Torino are a sterner proposition these days and will withstand the visitors' versatile attack.
